As I contemplate the early morning and all of it's splendor, I realize just how lucky I've been in my life. A mild summer morning in the Texas Hill Country is beyond description. The peaceful serenity of quietness that even a solitary hummingbird can cause a sensory disturbance is proof enough of the presence of God. The spirituality is so obvious to anyone who takes the time to stop, look and listen. Were it not for the visual reminders of a few modern day conveniences within my sight, I am easily transported backwards across time and space, to a more peaceful and tranquil setting. One hundred years ago the sky was just this silent, the birds were just this cheerful and the running waters of rivers and streams were just this calming.
Yes, we humans have changed over time and we have changed the world forever. But if you can find a peaceful setting, preferably in the early morning, when the dew is still set, and the coolness of the nights shadows still cover the landscape, you can see God, in all of his pastorial glory. If the leaves and the wind can be this still, so can your mind. And even if an occasional thought flitters across your mind, like that solitary hummingbird, it's singular solitude is a study in contrast and beauty. Only God can get you to this place. Yes, man
can create machines that move and grind and whirl and turn and roar, but he cannot create peace. Only God can. Only God has the power to quiet the winds and the hearts and the minds of man. Man alone cannot accomplish this feat by himself or for himself. For man sees what he wants to see and hears what he wants to hear and believes what he wants to believe. So if man believes in God, then he will see God and he will hear God. He will see God in all of creation. He will hear God in the silence of his heart and in the silence of his mind. If you believe it, you will see it. We are all blessed to have passed through this life. Love is bountiful and life is beautiful.
Bask in the sunshine and the glory of life,
Bathe in the knowledge and the truth that you find.
Drown in the waters of love and of life,
for these are like fruits,
come and drink from their wine.
