“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city” – King Solomon.
Who is the mighty? Would you consider a man who involves in domestic violence as mighty?
A mighty man is not the one who can defeat another. But the one who can control his anger. He that overcomes his anger conquers his greatest enemy. Controlling anger is one of spiritual practice that not only good for spiritual development, it’s also good for your health. Anger which is not controlled will lead to damaging actions. Scientists from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland found that hot tampered man has a higher risk of getting heart attack although he came from a family without heart disease background. The finding was reported in an article “Anger Raises Risk of Heart Attack” published in The London Times, dated 24 April 2002.
God gave us this emotion not for us to explode it, but for us to control and channel it to appropriate places. There are situations where you need to be angry. Example, you need to show your jealousy with your spouse, but within the limit, to protect her/his dignity. This is a test for us and those who pass will be greatly rewarded.
“An angry person is seldom reason able; a reasonable person is seldom angry.” – Unknown.
